Detailed Description
This company's Innovation Center has an opening for a Manager, Research & Technology for Safety & Fault tolerance - within the Control Systems & Solutions Department. This position can be located in either Eden Prairie, MN or Southfield, MI.
The Manager will be responsible for managing a team of scientists & engineers specializing in the Safety & Fault Tolerance area with a wide range of experience, with the principal goal of identifying, developing, and justifying commercialization of significant growth opportunities for diverse company businesses. The manager should stimulate the search for creative technology advances in the area of safety critical systems, fault tolerant architectures, reliability & availability analysis; identify significant business opportunities to leverage those advantages; and drive the realization of those opportunities in order to drive growth within company. The manager will be responsible for meeting the schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all research and development effort under his/her control, as well as responsible for the management of customer relations (company business leaders & stakeholders) and maintaining a sound business case for the project portfolio.
In addition to the above responsibilities, this individual must collaborate with the various product teams, application engineering, divisional engineering and the global marketing organization to create technology roadmaps & develop critical engineering capabilities, both resources and tools, that help the business grow. The manager is also responsible for developing & maintaining relationships with external technical community and academia, and leveraging these partnerships for significant advancements in research in the area of safety critical systems as relevant for company. Specifically, the incumbent will provide leadership to the department in terms of guidance, coaching and development of the technical staff; selection and retention of employees; management of the project portfolio; and administrative leadership for the department.
Essential Functions: 
- Champion global technology realization programs utilizing our internal processes including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Project Reviews.
- Direct the development of advanced technology projects, monitor achievements and review progress. Collaborate with Program Managers in the development of detailed project plans. Lead globally diverse cross-functional project teams effectively and manage selected projects under the guidelines.
- Manages customer relationships, maintaining customer satisfaction and manage the scope appropriately. Monitor & report overall performance of responsible projects. Responsible for periodic Project Status Reports, Quarterly Reports and other reports using specified reporting templates.
- Trains, develops and motivates subordinates to achieve their professional goals and review their accomplishments.
- Develops global strategies for technology roadmaps that are linked to and supportive of the overall Innovation Center Strategy. Create action plans to drive strategies to realization.
- Responsible for identification, evaluation and transfer of leading technology that pertains to existing, as well as, potentially new product lines.
- Implements policies and procedures on the safeguarding of proprietary engineering matters and monitors adherence.
- Fosters an environment for creativity while promoting the generation of value added intellectual property.
- Maintains and defends existing patents that cover the technology needs of the businesses.
- Finds and incorporates best practices in controls systems from outside company.
- Cultivates and manages relationships with institutions of advanced learning and maintain a linkage to leading peer corporations and Universities to accomplish this.
- Leads and develop employees.
- Fully utilizes those resources to meet global objectives.
- Facilitates global communication and cooperation between locations.
Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)
•           Master's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or related engineering field from an accredited institution
•           Minimum of 7 years’ experience applying relevant technological industry or academic experience involving safety and fault tolerance
•           International relocation is provided for qualified candidates
•           Sponsorship benefits are available for qualified candidates
Preferred Qualifications
•           PhD strongly preferred.
•           Thorough knowledge of safety landscape & certification requirement; demonstrated experience in safety critical system design, reliability/availability analysis
•           Expert knowledge of model based development toolchain
•           Proven track record of delivering technology concepts into commercialization path
•           Experience in program management, new product development & innovation process.
•           Strong verbal and written communication skills
•           Previous experience working with global teams and customers
•           Previous management or supervisory experience
•           Strong business and customer acumen
